The Jerome, United Verde, Verde Extension and Bruce volcanic hosted massive copper-zinc sulphide deposits were located 4 to 6 km south-west of the Bagdad porphyry copper mine in west-central Arizona, USA.   They are conformable and hosted by a rhyolite-andesite volcanic unit within the 1.7 to 1.0 Ga (Mesoproterozoic) Yavapai Series.

In the Jerome area the lower Yavapai Series comprises the:
i). basal Bridle Formation (sub-aqueous mafic to silicic meta-volcanics and interbedded tuffaceous sediments) which hosts the ore,
ii). overlying Butte Falls Tuff (siliceous schist, slate and quartzite), which includes a 1760 Ma rhyolite and
iii). Hillside mica schist.

Mineralisation is present as conformable, banded, massive (up to 90%) sulphide lenses and as a funnel shaped footwall pipe alteration zones.   The centimetre scale banding in the massive sulphide is composed of pyrite and sphalerite with chalcopyrite, minor galena and arsenopyrite, with trace pyrrhotite, cubanite and mackinawite accompanying the sphalerite.

The Bruce deposit has a strike length of 175 m, down plunge extent of 450 m and thickness of 10 m.   The footwall pipe extends for up to 400 m below the deposit and grades into the massive sulphides via a zone of brecciated andesite in a matrix of stringer like sulphides.   The massive sulphide lies at the contact between the underlying andesite and hangingwall rhyolite and grades laterally into a sericite schist zone following the same contact.

Jerome produced 34 Mt of ore, while Bruce contained 2 Mt @ 12% Zn, 4% Cu.
