The Bou Madine epithermal vein polymetallic gold-silver-zinc-lead deposits are hosted by Neoproterozoic rocks in the Jbel Ougnat district of the eastern Anti Atlas mountains in Morocco, 300 km east of Marrakech.

The inlier at Jbel Ougnat is the easternmost in the Pan African Anti-Atlas belt.   The host rocks are high-K calc-alkaline volcanics that comprise rhyolitic to dacitic ignimbrites, andesite flows and subvolcanic bodies of andesite and rhyolite in 160° oriented dilation zones associated with the 30° trending sinistral fault system of the inlier.

Prior to the introduction of mineralisation the area was subjected to a phase of propylitic alteration.   The main mineralising event comprised two stages, the first of massive pyrite veins with arsenopyrite and minor pyrrhotite and cassiterite in a series of 160° en echelon joints with halos of quartz-sericite-pyrite alteration.   The second stage commenced with the introduction of sphalerite, chalcopyrite, stannite and galena (also in 160° veins), overprinted by quartz veinlets with arsenopyrite and minor sulpho-salts containing the precious metals.

The vein field cover an area of less than 20 sq. km, within rhyolitic sub-volcanic intrusives.   The individual veins have strike lengths of up 300 m and are 2 to 5 m thick, thinning towards their extremity into thinner horsetail veins.   Mineralistion is known over vertical intervals of 400 m without a significant change in mineralogy, although the upper 40 m are affected by supergene alteration that produced the rich Fe-hydroxide ores exploited historically.

The deposit contains 4.096 Mt @ 2.4 g/t Au, 1.95 g/t Ag, 3.9% Zn, 0.78% Pb.
