[At Fosterville]
Afternoon at Fosterville - Following lunch, the group was taken to the Fosterville core facility where they had the opportunity to study some of the key drill holes through the more recent deep high grade ore now being mined, and to discuss these with experienced mine and exploration geologists. The upper left image shows visible gold within vein material from such mineralisation while the right image is a hand specimen containing visible gold and clusters of fine stibnite needles. Scales are im cm with mm graduations. The lower left image is of members of the group with our chief on site host: from left: James Maxwell (Sabina Gold and Silver, Canada); Rocky Pittaway (Kirkland Lake Gold); Kazuhiro Yamamoto (Sumitomo Metal Mining Oceania); and Chris Campbell (Sumitomo Metal Mining Oceania).
The visit had been very interesting, enlightening, and very well presented. It ended in the mid afternoon, when the group departed to return to Tullamarine airport in Melbourne by 6:00 pm in ample time to check in for their 8:30 pm flight to Perth, which arrived there after four hours of flying at 9:40 pm, due to the 3 hour summer time difference. They then took the hotel shuttle bus to the nearby airport hotel, in readiness for the early flight out next morning.     Images by Mike Porter.
