[Zimbabwe Harare to Renco]
Harare to Renco, Zimbabwe. The group arrived in Harare by air in the early afternoon of Saturday 26 July. During the mid to late afternoon and early evening, they were given a workshop on the geology and gold mineralisation of Zimbabwe by geologists of the Zimbabwe Geological Survey. On the following day, Sunday, they took a leisurely drive south to Masvingo where they had the opportunity to visit the ruins of the mediaval iron age town of Great Zimbabwe. An early morning start south had them at the Renco mine by 08:00 am. They were given an introduction to the geology of the deposit before an underground visit to study the various reefs being worked, the country rocks and alteration. In the late afternoon they drove back to Harare, where the module ended. The group then dispersed to return to their various home bases.
