Underground and in the field in the Timmins area, Ontario, Canada
The next three days involved first driving to Timmins, followed by a detailed full day workshop on the tectonics, geology and Archaean ore deposits of Canada, concentrating on the Abitibi Sub-province. Speakers included Francois Robert of the Geological Survey of Canada, Phil Thurston, John Ayer, Bob Calhoun and Pam Sangster of the Ontario Geological Survey and Dan Brisbin of Falconbridge Limited who provided an overview of the Kidd Creek Cu-Zn deposit we were to visit next day. That evening, members of the tour group delivered talks to the survey people and Falconbridge geologists on deposits with which they had experience in Australia.
