[Lecture in Lubumbashi]
In the Tshifufia pit at the MMG Kinsevere Mine, Katanga Province, Democratic Republic of Congo  -  The group transferred by charter bus from Lubumbashi to the Kinsevere Mine, some 35 km to the NNE, on the morning of Monday 12 May. After clearing security, they were given a safety induction, followed by a comprehensive presentation on the geology, structure and mineralisation of the deposits at Kinsevere, before transferring to mine equipped vehicles (see fleet in bottom centre image) to first be taken to the lookout (bottom left) above the Tshifufia pit. Here, the complex structure of the deposit, as seen in the opposite wall (upper image), could be explained and appreciated. Note the dark 'Schistes Dolomitiques' (SD) unit in the left side of the pit and pit floor, which is the host to the bulk of the mineralisation. In the lower right image, members of the group are examining and discussing exposures of this unit in the pit, before being led on a detailed traverse around one of the benches (see group returning on bottom centre image) to study the complete host sequence.   Photograph by Mike Porter.
