The Module 2A, Caribbean Laterites Tour Group in the Bonao laterite nickel pit in the Dominican Republic with Falcondo staff.
    Photograph by Mike Porter

The tour group had rendezvoused with the new starters joining in Miami, Florida, USA, on the evening of Sunday 4 June. Next morning they flew to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, arriving mid morning. On transferring to the city and checking into their hotel, they were given a comprehensive half day briefing on the Geological Framework of the Caribbean and its Nickel Deposits, including both the Dominican Republic and Cuba, by Falcondo Exploration staff and locally based geologists who were experts on the region.
They departed Santo Domingo early next morning by road for the 80 km drive to Falcondo's Bonao laterite nickel mine. On site they were given a further briefing on the operation and geology of the deposits at Bonao, then an inspection of the geology of those deposits in the pit, followed by the treatment plant. Late in the afternoon, they returned to Santo Domingo to overnight.
Next morning they took a flight to Miami to connect with another to Bogota in Colombia, arriving in the late afternoon.
