[Ferrobamba mineralisation]
Selected lithologies, alteration and mineralisation styles within the Ferrobamba ore zone. The group was picked up from their hotel in Challhuahuacho early on the morning of Friday 8 June and taken to the Ferrobamba mine area for induction and further medical examinations. The next stop was section of the main Ferrobamba pit for a traverse across the interval from one of the intermineral intrusions, through the endoskarn and exoskarn to the margin of the mineralised skarn body. Some of the principal lithologies and mineralisation are illustrated above: Top left: Sheeted veining within low grade intramineral porphyry; Top right: mineralised vein within intramineral porphyry; Centre left: High grade garnet endoskarn; Centre right: high grade pyroxene (diopside - CaMgSi2O6) rich exoskarn after an impure carbonate protolith; Lower left: bornite-rich garnet exoskarn [grossularite Ca3Al2(SiO4)3 near intrusive contact, grading to distal andradite Ca3Fe2(SiO4)3]; Lower centre: banded garnet-diopside exoskarn, interpreted to be mimicking original bedding; and Lower right: less altered distal host rock composed of marble and weakly altered calc-silicates and transitional skarn, including fracture controlled garnet.       Images by Mike Porter.
