Then on to Toromocho. On the morning of Tuesday 12 June, the group caught an early flight from Cajamarca to Lima, arriving by 8:30 am, where 3 Toyota Prados with drivers awaited, as well as a number of participants that were re-joining or beginning their tour. The three car convoy set out from Lima airport and drove east for ~340 km, up the winding highway 22, through narrow gorges, tunnels and switchbacks, and over the 4800 m, snow flanked Ticlio Pass to La Oroya, arriving in the late afternoon. They overnighted at La Oroya in readiness for an early start next morning.
After a pre-dawn departure, the group arrived at the Toromocho mine gate early to undergo yet another set of medical examinations and a safety induction. They were then given an excellent, practical presentation covering the geology and mineralisation of the Morococha District and the Toromocho deposit by Juan David Ramos, Jefe General de Geologia, Toromocho, Chinalco Peru.
