[On the Giant Section]
At Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, Canada - Two similar VHMS Au-Cu-Zn mines, the Barrick Bousquet #2 and the neighbouring Agnico-Eagle LaRonde, were visited in parallel as neither could accommodate the full group.
Top left: Those of the group that visited Bousquet #2 with our underground guides, Pierre Gauthier and Normand Berderd (4th and 5th from the left) of Barrick. The local TV station had been advised of our visit and a cameraman and interviewer were waiting for us when we came out of the cage on returning to the surface. Later in the day they re-appeared during our field traverse;   Top right: Marc Legault of Agnico-Eagle who had hosted the LaRonde visit;   Bottom left: the LaRonde headframe;   Bottom right: On the afternoon following the mine visits, the group was taken on a traverse of the host sequence to the VHMS deposits of the Rouyn-Noranda district by expert geologist Sylvain Lacroix (green hat) of the Quebec Ministère de l'Ènergie et des Ressources Naturelles.     Photographs by Mike Porter
