Following the conclusion of the North America module, some members of the group had completed their tour and departed to their home bases. The remainder departed via Montreal and London, where they took a rest day, and then onward to Johannesburg.
The first day in South Africa involved a seminar arranged with the Geological Society of South Africa. The morning session involved a series of presentations by African experts on the geology and gold deposits of Africa. The afternoon was taken up with tour participants talking about Australian gold deposits and provinces with which they were familiar.
