Early morning arrival at Cajamarca (Peru) by charter aircraft, en route to the Yanacocha complex of gold mines, one pit of which is shown above. Following the Introductory Meeting and Dinner on the previous evening in Lima, the group flew north for around 1 hour 20 minutes to Cajamarca to be met and taken by road to the Yanacocha mine, about 1 hour out of Cajamarca. The mine is at an altitude of ~4000 to 4500 m above sea level compared to 2800 m at Cajamarca. Following the visit, the group was returned to Cajamarca by last light to spend the night.
