The El Romeral iron pit, in the Iron Belt of central Chile in 2001, which, like all of the other deposits of this module are within the Mesozoic Coastal Cordillera. The visit comprised an overview briefing followed by a traverse across the then inactive South Pit, before visiting the upper benches of the then current main pit (left), followed by the opportunity to study the different styles of mineralisation on the ore stockpiles. After lunch, the group were taken back to the La Serena offices of the Compañia Minera del Pacifico (CMP) who operate the mine, where four members of the group gave presentations to the tour group and to CMP geological staff covering IOCG deposits with which they were familiar (right).
