The Marsfontein diamond mine is located near Potgietersrus in the Northern Province of South Africa.

The M-1 kimberlite is a small high grade pipe within the Zebediela kimberlite swarm. Mining at the M1 open pit was commenced in mid 1998 and completed in 2000, although production from the stockpiles continued to 2002. This deposit, although small, repaid all capital outlay with its first 3.4 days of production. In total, some 1.826 million carats were recovered from 970 347 tonnes of kimberlite, equating to a grade of 188 cpht of diamonds.

Production in 2000 totalled 0.53 Mt @ 82.2 cpht for 0.4363 million carats at an average value of USD 165 per carat.
The remaining resource in 2000 after the completion of mining was 1 Mt @ 12.1 cpht diamonds.

The most recent source geological information used to prepare this decription was dated: 2004.
