ABSTRACT
Kucing Liar is the exciting new ore zone discovered recently at the Freeport Grasberg operation in Indonesia in the Ertsberg Mining District. This complex of ore deposits contains much more 2.16 Gt @ 1.2% Cu, 1.2 g/t Au, 3.95 g/t Ag with over 2500 t (80 Moz) of contained gold. At Kucing Liar, mineralisation is present as both skarn and replacement ore in sediments surrounding the Grasberg porphyry stock and comprises 222 Mt @ 1.42% Cu, 1.57 g/t Au, 5.12 g/t Ag. The deposit has a strike length of 2 km and is open to the WNW. Drill intersections vary from 50 to over 400 m, averaging 200 to 250 m. This paper explains the geological setting of the deposit as well as the mineralisation and alteration, illustrated by drill sections.
